Abstract (click to show/hide)
Animal assisted therapy is a newly developing field of psychology. Past research has focused on the influence of introducing animals to clinically ill individuals. This study investigates the relationships between pet attachment among 105 of 190 students, as well as investigating correlations between gender, anxiety, and depression scores in students with a disability versus those without a disability. The Companion Animal Bonding Scale (CABS) was used along with the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II), and the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) in an integrated survey using counterbalancing technique amongst the two Beck inventories. No significant differences were found between students with a disability and those without a disability, regardless of gender, with respect to their pet attachment, anxiety, and or depression scores.
